5.8 Earthquake Felt in Punta Cana

Sunday morning, at 1:16am local time, an 5.8 earthquake hit Puerto Rico.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near Mayaguez on the West coast of the island of Puerto Rico. The earthquake could be felt throughout the Dominican Republic and was reportedly felt as far away as the Virgin Islands

Here in Punta Cana, being approximately 80 miles away from the epicenter, the force was strong enough to rattle furniture and wake some people who were sleeping although no damage occurred. The earthquake lasted for about 15 seconds.
