Dominican Republic with the most Blue Flag Beaches in Latin America
The Dominican Republic has the largest number of beaches with prestigious Blue Flag certification in Latin America and the Caribbean with 14 blue flag beach certified properties. Four properties in Punta Cana have the certification: Bahia Principe Bavaro, Barcelo Punta Cana and Iberostar. Barcelo Bavaro in Bavaro beach is also a Blue Flag Beach. There are two more in the Cabeza de Toro area: Grand Oasis Grand and Cabeza de Toro Natura Park.

RIU Palace Bavaro Opening in Punta Cana
This December, RIU Palace Bavaro will be opening in the RIU Punta Cana complex, located on Arena Gorda beach. The opening of this resort coincides with the 20th anniversary of RIU Hotels & Resort international presence outside of Spain. The RIU Palace Bavaro will become the 34th RIU resort located in the Caribbean & Latin America.

5.4 Earthquake Felt In Punta Cana
At 4:35UTC on November 13 a 5.4 Earthquake was felt in the Dominican Republic. The epicenter was located off the coast of La Romana. Preliminary reports indicate that there was no damage. But in Punta Cana, the quake lasted approximately 20 seconds and shock entire buildings and made windows rattle.
The magnitude of this earthquake is such that a tsunami will not be generated.
The magnitude has since been upgraded to a 5.6 on the richter scale.
